THE IAM GIRL PROJECT

Status: Ongoing Started:

Project Overview

The I AM GIRL (IAG) Project is a holistic girls' empowerment initiative that seeks to improve educational outcomes, wellbeing, and life opportunities for adolescent girls by addressing the social, economic, and cultural barriers that hinder their full participation in education and community life. The project works with schools, families, community leaders, and local institutions to create safe, supportive, and inclusive environments where girls can thrive.

The project focuses on promoting gender equality, menstrual hygiene management, child protection, and access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, while strengthening the capacity of communities to support and protect girls. Through life-skills education, awareness raising, mentorship, and community engagement, the project empowers girls with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to remain in school and achieve their full potential.

Recognizing that sustainable change requires collective action, the IAG Project actively engages boys, parents, teachers, and community leaders in addressing harmful gender norms and practices that contribute to school absenteeism, early marriage, gender-based violence, and discrimination. By fostering positive attitudes and shared responsibility, the project promotes an enabling environment where girls are valued, protected, and supported.

Ultimately, the I AM GIRL Project contributes to improved school attendance and retention, enhanced personal wellbeing, strengthened child protection systems, and increased opportunities for girls to become confident leaders and active contributors to their communities.
