About Hamiza Development Foundation
Established in 2020, Hamiza Development Foundation (HDF) emerged as a beacon of hope during the global pandemic, dedicated to uplifting Uganda's most vulnerable populations.
The name "Hamiza" means being firm, persistent, and grounded — providing facts and hope to those who need it most. We believe lasting change begins with listening to communities and building their capacity to lead their own development.
Founded: 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic — born out of a crisis response into a movement for lasting change.
Who We Serve: Women, girls and boys, youth, PWDs, refugees, host communities, and smallholder farmers across Uganda.
Our Approach: Community-led. Evidence-based. Locally grounded. We build systems, not dependency.

Our Mission
To empower vulnerable groups and strengthen their resilience by addressing inequality and injustices, enabling them to lead dignified lives and contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s sustainable development.
Our Vision
To build an equal, just, and prosperous Uganda where all people—especially women and girls, boys and men, youth, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), refugees, host communities, and smallholder farmers—enjoy their rights, access equal opportunities, and share in the benefits of sustainable growth and development.

How We Got Here
From a response to crisis, to a movement for lasting change.
Foundation Birth
Born during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the economic and social crisis affecting Uganda's most vulnerable — women, youth, refugees, and smallholder farmers.
"Hamiza" Identity
We chose the name Hamiza — meaning firm, persistent, and grounded — as a symbol of our commitment to consistency, truth, and unwavering hope.
Targeting Inequality
We defined our focus on women, PWDs, refugees, and smallholder farmers — the groups most marginalised and least served by existing development efforts.
Launching Five Pillars
We built five strategic pillars — Women Empowerment, Economic Resilience, Environment & Climate, Education, and Protection — creating a comprehensive model for community-led development.
Growing Impact
Today, Hamiza partners with communities, local governments, and international organisations including Irish Aid and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands to scale proven interventions.

We deliberately involve women, youth, PWDs, refugees, and smallholder farmers in decision making processes, recognising their voices as central to shaping interventions.

We equip vulnerable groups with knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead their own development journeys, reducing dependency and strengthening resilience.
