Refugee and Host communities Empowerment Project [REHOP] launch in Kyegegwa District
HDF following its Strategic plan 2024-2029 seeks to impact the lives of refugees and host
communities is implementing REHOP with the aim to sustainably improve the socio-economic
conditions of refugees and host communities in Kyegegwa district through skilling for employment,
agro-ecology, agroforestry and value chain development.
HDF is currently in Kyegegwa subcounty serving the parishes of Sweswe, Bulingo, Kyegegwa and
Bukeera serving Smallholder farmers, youths, women and girls, men and boys, children, Persons with
Disabilities (PWDS) and Other vulnerable groups.
HDF has established Agroecology schools offering a comprehensive mix of interventions to the
refugees and host communities through a community led and tailored curriculum offering these
communities trainings in GALS Methodology as a gender transformative approach, creation of
VSLAs, capacity-building programs, mentorship, and access to financing for women, youth, and
vulnerable groups to start and scale their own businesses-e.g. encouraging them to utilise PDM
money, referrals and linkages to better market, re-integrating pregnant and given birth teenagers back
to formal and informal school, re-integrating survivors of GBV back to community and agroecology
schools, use of the Juris law and rights app specifically tailored to address the needs of the refugee
communities among others.
