St. Marita Agroecology school in session-on farm training by ESAFF

HDF Uganda’s Initiatives in Agroecology supported by ESAFF

On the 11th of October 2023, ESAFF Uganda partnering with HDF in offering technical support to
HDF’s Agroecology projects conducted an on- farm training with the aim of encouraging sustainable
farming practices even during the dry season.
St. Marita Agroecology school, known for its dedication to growing vegetables for commercial
purposes, welcomed the ESAFF team warmly. The session started with an interactive discussion about
the various crops grown by the school. They shared their experiences and challenges in cultivating
and maintaining their vegetable gardens.

The ESAFF team, with their vast knowledge and experience in sustainable agriculture, provided
valuable insights into integrating agroecology into their farming practices. Agroecology, which
focuses on sustainable and organic farming techniques, aims to improve productivity while preserving
the environment.
ESAFF team emphasized the importance of crop diversity and the use of organic inputs. They
explained how these practices could enhance soil fertility, reduce pest and disease incidences, and
ultimately increase yields. The women were particularly interested in learning how agroecology could
help them achieve better productivity and sustainability.
The session concluded with a commitment from both ESAFF and the St. Marita Agroecology school
to continue collaborating and implementing these sustainable practices. This visit marked the
beginning of a journey towards a more resilient and sustainable agricultural system for the
community.
